Become a cosmetologist in only 14 months! Our full-time, 1,500-hour program combines classroom lecture and hands-on training with real clients.

Program Description

Welcome to the Cosmetology Program. The student experience at Tri-County Career Center is a unique combination of textbook learning and real world hands-on experiences. We apply Science, Math and Communication Skills to career opportunities. The Cosmetology program is fully certified by the Ohio Cosmetology State Board. Graduates are expected to take state board examinations upon successful completion of their 1,500-hour program. Passing these exams is a requirement for licensing necessary for professional employment.

This program offers students the opportunity to receive training in such skills as hair care; hair coloring and highlighting; permanent waving and relaxing; hair cutting and styling; pedicure and manicure techniques; and quality skin care. Students will learn application of the latest salon and cosmetic products used in today’s hair care industry. Students will start their careers by learning proper use of equipment, safety requirements and cleanliness procedures. Students will practice cosmetology techniques on mannequins and each other before providing services for clients. Clients have the opportunity to receive services during regular school hours by appointment so that students gain practical experiences in mastering their skills.

Areas of Study

Curriculum

Learn the laws that govern the practice of cosmetology in the State of Ohio, including inspections and enforcement.
Sanitation and Bacteriology- learn how to keep the salon environment sanitary as well as dispensary requirements and operations
Scalp Care - learn the anatomy of the head, hair and scalp including the proper care of the scalp and diseases and disorders.
Hair- learn curling, styling, cutting, and trimming techniques including the care of wigs.
Hair II - learn about permanent waves, chemical relaxing, tinting, bleaching and foiling.
Manicuring - learn the anatomy of nails, bone, skin and muscles, various nail techniques, artificial nail applications, and hand and arm bleach and massage.
Skin Care -learn the anatomy of the body, plus facial, eyebrow arching, make- up application, and body massage techniques.
Artificial Lashes/Extensions
Facial Make-up/Brow Tinting
Salon Operations - learn about the day-to-day operations of a salon.
Communication Skills- learn about human relations, sales, and interpersonal skills.
Skill Practice -hands-on competency-based training and skill check offs in the lab as well as an internship in an area salon.
Workforce Development -prepare a resume; learn job search techniques and interviewing skills.
